Facebook Opens Up Post-By-Post Metrics

As of yesterday, Facebook has begun rolling out their post-by-post analytics to all Facebook pages. Originally this feature was only available to authenticated pages with over 10,000 fans, but I noticed late last night that it has become available to all Facebook Pages.

It shows two metrics, Impressions and Feedback. Impressions is the number of times your post has been displayed on your page and in your fans' news feeds, however this doesn't necessarily guarantee visual impressions, as it also counts for when the article appears below the fold. Feedback is a simple calculation of the number of comments and likes divided by the number of impressions. Similar to the traditional Search Engine Marketing metric, Click Through Rate.

These metrics have been available for a while through the Page Insights section, but previously users were only able to drill down to a daily metric. This was useful for identifying trends, but for pages with more than one status update per day it made identifying the success of each post very difficult.

These new post-by-post insights bring a new level of granularity to tracking the effectiveness of each article posted on Facebook Pages, which opens new opportunities for testing and recording data on which elements achieve the best reaction from the fanbase. This is extremely powerful for those who have a social media schedule as part of their delivery strategy.

If you have a Facebook Page, have a look now and let us know if you are being shown post-by-post metrics. Are you likely to start tracking and recording them?
