It's been 12 weeks since my last blog post

It's been a little while since I last blogged, and I find myself asking why?

I know how important it is. I espouse the virtues of blogging and fresh high quality content to clients (and anyone else that will listen to me) on a daily basis, yet I haven't been eating my own dog food.

The reason is that it's very easy to deprioritise blogging. Sure I have regular time in my calendar every week for it - yet for one reason or another something else always takes priority. There are always short term priorities that provide more highly visible and immediate rewards for a business than blogging.

When you are leading a fast growing business you get pulled in lots of different directions - clients and potential clients need your attention - your team needs your attention - suppliers and business partners need your attention. But focussing all your attention on the immediate priorities at hand comes at the price of long term value and growth for your business.

Blogging (and Social Media more broadly) are not short term strategies. They are long term strategies that pay dividends more gradually over time. Think of your Social Media as depositing money into a savings account. The more regularly you deposit and the longer you do it, the more the interests compounds over time.

Beyond positioning you and your brand as authoritative in your area of expertise, blogging extends your brand's digital footprint - sending the right brand signals to the search engines. And with Social Media sharing, distribution and curation sends the right social signals to your search rankings and news feed optimisation.

Content and ideas aren't my problem - I've got plenty. Time isn't the problem - I've got exactly the same amount of time as everyone else on the planet. The problem is being disciplined with my time and ruthless in balancing both short term and long term priorities.

So I'd love to the hear your ideas, tips and suggestions for how you manage your time and balance your priorities. Just drop me a line in the comments below.
