It might be a little odd to start our list with a question and answer post from the Quora website however the article is likely to appeal to a broad range of potential online shop owners as well as those amongst us who wonder how to open an online shop in the most streamlined way.

It’s an excellent article by Matthew Carroll - he’s a guy with a track record of building fashion and footwear brands and is currently running 2 startups. He’s also raised $7 Million for fashion startups over the last 18 months which his impressive.

Ever wondered how Google went about defining PageRank?

A great Infographic explaining in an easy and visual way, what basically goes into PR.

For me, the last line says it all ‘If you get high PR sites linking to you, they will always be more valuable than a large amount of links from low PR sites. This is because, like a popularity contest, you always need the popular people on your side first.'

Check it out.

The question on almost every blogger's lips is ‘How Do I Get People To Engage?

  1. It asks a question and doesn’t completely answer it.
  2. It provides an innovative solution to a common problem.
  3. It expresses the personality of the sharer.
  4. It gives them bragging rights.
  5. It entertains.

In a nutshell, those are the broad areas, though you’d be better informed on the reasoning and nuances behind them, by reading the full blog post.

I’ve personally got an odd mixture of passions - relationships and marketing so this article certainly did appeal to me.

5 Rules Of Marketing To Women

With an interesting first paragraph of:

There's a shortlist of mistakes companies and brands typically make when trying to sell products to women. Marketing missteps can hurt sales, but more importantly, they can actually turn women off from your brand entirely. If you've ever committed the sin of "pink it and shrink it," it's time to re-imagine your strategy. Here are five pitfalls to avoid.

Certainly opens the eyes of all those 'old world' marketers who still believe marketing to both genders can use the same triggers and techniques.

Here's thought provoking post from Chris Brogan, on the possible structure of a blog site’s content.

Chapters vs. Episodes

The stand out sentence for me was:

We tend to write as if we’re doing chapters, except that we rarely (never?) have a “Previously, on _____” part to help people get context.

When you think about, that’s a kind of cool way to continue disjointed and time separated (but related) blog posts. And it's usually how television shows stitch together storylines too.
